Best for walkability and the waterfront: downtown (Brant)
Downtown Burlington has the most condos in the city, from 1970s-90s buildings on North Shore Boulevard and Maple Crossing Boulevard to new towers on Lakeshore Road, James Street and Martha Street. Spencer Smith Park, the Brant Street Pier, restaurants and Burlington GO are all within walking distance. The trade-offs are higher prices, more construction and a busier setting.
Best for lake views in a quieter setting: Appleby and Aldershot
Appleby, in the east end, has lakeside towers such as Admiral's Walk, Royal Vista and Tridel's Hearthstone by the Lake, close to Appleby GO. In the west end, LaSalle and Bayview in Aldershot have condos along Plains Road near LaSalle Park, the Royal Botanical Gardens and Aldershot GO. Both suit buyers who want water nearby without downtown's bustle.
Best for low-rise living in the suburbs: Tansley, Headon and Uptown
Tansley has a cluster of four-storey condos from the late 1990s on Kilmer Drive and Walkers Line, popular with downsizers. Headon adds low-rise buildings and many townhouse complexes, and Uptown has 2000s and 2010s buildings such as Ironstone beside shopping and the QEW. These areas generally offer lower prices and quieter streets than downtown.
Best for newer buildings: Alton Village and the Orchard
In the north end, Alton Village and the Orchard have mid-rise buildings from the 2010s and 2020s, including ADI's projects on Dundas Street and Dakota Common, close to Highway 407. New buildings bring modern amenities and warranties, but check fees and first-year budgets closely.
